Online Pornography Addiction

With the amazing growth of the internet we are only starting to see the effects of online pornography addiction. Never before has so much pornography been available to mankind. Sadly, those who create such material are only concerned about themselves. What they don't see is the challenge of breaking pornography addiction. They don't see the individuals who are struggling with low self-worth. The marriages that are being destroyed.

By the time the our society wakes up to the devastating effects that online pornography has created we may be witnessing and experiencing the scary results.

Consider the following facts:

One in five children ages 10-17 have received a sexual solicitation over the Internet (The Web's Dark Secret. Newsweek, 19 March, 2001.)

2.5 billion emails per day are pornographic (Pornography Statistics,2003 Family Safe Media). The earlier a child is exposed to pornography the higher the likelihood that they will develop a sexual addiction.

Once a person has been desensitized to pornography the next step is escalation (increase in viewing rough and violent erotic material)and finally acting out behaviors.

Here is a link that describes in more detail the challenges created by online pornography addiction.

Breaking Pornography Addictions

After reviewing the literature on treating addictions it is clear that most professionals agree that "Sex Addiction" is one of the most difficult to treat. Just ask someone who has promised themself a thousand times that "this is the last time." Truth be told breaking pornography addiction starts everyday of every year. It is a process that overtime becomes easier and easier, but the initial phase is extremely challenging. It is this initial wave of desire that drives many back to the old habit. Then once a person gives in, they often binge for a few days. Once the binge is over they recommit to stop looking at pornography. Such is the patern that is repeated over and over until the person obtains the right tools to break their pornography addiction.

With the right tools, knowledge, and desire pornography addiction can be overcome. Here are 5 steps to help you get started in breaking your online pornography addiction:

  1. If you think you have a problem, you probably do. You can assess your level of addiction to pornography by taking our "Assessing Pornography Addiction" test. This assessment will help you identify three things:

    • You will learn how to identify your personal level of dependency or addiction
    • Gain the right information so that you can receive the best help in overcoming your pornography addiction
    • How to discuss your involvement in pornography with a counselor, clergyman, or family member.

2nd) Don't fight the battle at the bar. If you are struggling with looking at pornography online, it is virtually impossible to fight off the strong urge while sitting at the computer.

3rd) Develop a plan of action for everytime you are feeling compelled to view online pornography. For example, if you view pornography early in the morning you might develop an exercise routine rather than getting online

4th) Don't fight the battle alone. Successful people fighting online pornography addiction find help. The individual who tries to fight the battle alone is dealing with this issue in secrecy. Secrecy for an addict is one of biggest mistakes an addict can make.

5th) Gain more knowledge about breaking pornography addiction. You can begin to understand your personal challenge by taking ourtest. There are also some great books that I would recommend that everyone who is struggling with pornography addiction read.

You can find a list of these books on the resources link.

Get started today so that you can begin to feel free. I have never met a person who struggles with an online pornography addiction feel good about themselves and life. Learn how to break your pornography addiction today.
